Class Action Objectors Silent on New Jersey's Exxon Settlement

April 30, 2015 | Posted in : NALFA News

The New Jersey Exxon class action settlement has come under broad criticism, as lawmakers and environmentalist have questioned why the state of New Jersey would agree to accept only $225 million – a small fraction of the $8.9 million in damages it was seeking from the court.

So, where are the people whose role it is to object to these unfair class action settlements on behalf of New Jersey taxpayers?  That is, class action objectors.

“This may be one of the most unfair class action settlements in U.S. history and we haven’t heard a word from any class action objectors.  At NALFA, we think it’s very telling that we haven’t heard from any well-known class action objectors on this settlement. Aren’t they supposed to object to unfair class action settlements?,” Terry Jesse, Executive Director of NALFA asked.
