FAQ’s
What is legal fee analysis?
Legal fee analysis encompasses a wide range of highly specialized services preformed by experienced litigators. These services include the practice of reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, mediating, and counseling on attorney fees and/or litigation costs.

Why are best practices needed in the legal fee analysis profession?
Some attorneys have described the process of reviewing attorney fees as arbitrary, inconsistent, burdensome, and without recognized principles. By providing best practices, we ensure reliability in the attorney fee review process and admissibility in attorney fee results.

The NALFA Best Practices are the generally accepted principles of the legal bill review profession.  The NALFA Best Practices apply to all qualified professionals who review, analyze, and evaluate on attorney fees and/or legal costs.  Our generally accepted principles ensure reliability and admissibility in legal fee results as required by the Daubert and Frye holdings.

What is the Daubert ruling?
The Daubert ruling is the landmark Supreme Court decision that requires admissible expert opinion to rest on a reliable foundation, be subject to peer review, and be recognized by generally accepted principles within a given professional community.

Why join NALFA?
The most valuable benefits to joining are the intangible benefits.  These intangible benefits include professional recognition and distinction that your practice abides by the Model Rule 1.5 standard and follows generally accepted principles.

Our members also receive tangible benefits such as CLE programs and access to research services that provide members with the latest news, case law, and court rules on attorney fees.  Plus, your practice can receive free referrals from institutional clients such as law firms, in-house counsel, government agencies, and insurance carriers.
